This webinar explored opportunities and challenges relating to greening the jeepneys in the Philippines, which form the core of the country's public transport system. The jeepney modernization and electrification initiative requires a whole-of-society approach to ensure a just transition for all. In particular, the case of the Philippines' General Santos City was discussed.
About the Speakers
Jericho Jan Andres, a climate change and energy policy advisor, leads the energy and transport component of the Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development (TRANSCEND) Project of GIZ Philippines and Pacific Island Countries. His engagement focuses on decision support systems for climate and energy policies.
Joyce Rivera, a transport policy advisor, also with the GIZ Philippines and Pacific Island Countries , advocates for research-based intervention, participatory planning and institutional strengthening for sustainable transport and development. She was previously with the Philippine Department of Transportation for the Public Transport Modernization Program and the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act.
Maria Golda Hilario leads the Institute of Climate and Sustainable Cities’ portfolio that works closely with government agencies, cities and civil society to advance better integration of climate considerations in urban development planning. She also coordinates the Southeast Asia expansion of the Clean Mobility Collective, a network of non-state actors campaigning for inclusive, low-carbon urban mobility.
